Nita McDowell - jewellery

Nita McDowell uses natural forms taken from the sea as inspiration.

Incorporating found objects, gathered whilst beachcombing, she casts these in precious metals, with a variety of finishes such as oxidising and gold plating. These are combined with semi-precious stones and beads with fresh water pearls. In doing so her work evolves organically to incorporate shape and form to evoke memories of the ocean; sea treasures whether they are created or discovered.

Nita trained at Central School of Art and Design, graduating in 1981. She practices from her workshop in Surrey, exhibiting with the Surrey Guild of Craftsmen in Milford and at the Galerie Buzkashi in Dorking.
