Estelle Grandidier
My main subject is the human figure. I use mainly unglazed porcelain and black clay but the choice of clay is in accordance with the subject matter. My work is hand built; I make one offs, sometimes in small series.
Through the figure I can comment on the history of the human race, on the relationship we have with the body or simply tell a story. I am interested in showing and provoking emotion. The sensuality of clay communicates all kinds of feelings; it is the perfect medium to comment on being human, life’s fragility and imperfections.
My work is inspired by Modigliani, Mo Jupp, Giacometti, Matisse, African Art.
