2017 Carshalton Artists Open Studios

2017 Carshalton Artists Open Studios

The inaugural Carshalton Artists Open Studios (CAOS) visual arts festival takes over Carshalton in June and July this year, encouraging the local community to engage with the arts.

CAOS will celebrate the rich diversity of cultural activities in Carshalton, with thirty artists exhibiting in over fifteen locations. The CAOS festival has something for everyone, from children and families to the serious art collector.  This exciting new festival will bring to the community original exhibitions, engaging demonstrations and free workshops. The CAOS festival will take audiences on a journey of discovery, encouraging them to visit Carshalton’s amazing array of talented artists, heritage centres, historical buildings, places of outstanding natural beauty and vibrant galleries.

Experienced artists will conduct family orientated demonstrations and workshops at many of the CAOS locations, with two key local venues the Corner Gallery, Carshalton Beeches and Honeywood Museum, Carshalton opening their doors to welcome active participation in exhibitions and workshops aimed particularly at children and families. The Corner Gallery will have a festival atmosphere with exciting contemporary art on display in the open air, with live painting and free workshops run by Squirrels Community Scrap Scheme inside the gallery. Honeywood Museum will join in the fun by curating a one off exhibition of work, hung especially for the CAOS Festival, from the Borough’s Museum Collection looking at Carshalton Village, a special place that has drawn artists to it over time.

CAOS brings together a highly talented community of artists, from a rich diversity of backgrounds, using a wide range of artistic expression and includes artists that have exhibited at the prestigious RA Summer Show and Mall Galleries.

Neal and Helena Vaughan (CAOS Festival organisers) explain, “this amazing festival will engage people in the community and beyond, drawing them into the area to experience the hugely talented artists, vibrant community and breath taking cultural heritage Carshalton has to offer.” The organisers go on to say “we plan to establish this as an annual event that will increasingly benefit the community and local heritage centres. Our aim is to refresh community spirits through regular creative interaction”.
